Saturday 31 October 2009: Saturday 31st October 2009 --- I photographed 66152 on the 6V78 Wembley to Margam (Many thanks to the lizard for the gen) before going to North Wales, firstly photographing 57314 in Anglesey at Holyhead awaiting an 05:32 departure to Cardiff on Monday. I also photographed 66108 awaiting departure on the 3J96 Holyhead to Crewe EMD (pic yet to be uploaded). I then went to Valley where I photographed 57304 working the 1D83 0850 London Euston to Holyhead pendolino drag. I then photographed DBS 66108 spraying well on approach to Valley station with the 3J96 back to Crewe. It is believed this working is going back to DRS next year. The train was held in the station due to the long sections between Signals. I then went to a new location I found near Valley, for the recently reinstated and a favourite with many enthusiasts, 37425 Pride of the Valleys which lead 37401 back on possibly the last 6F18 Holyhead to Warrington Arpley freight. I then waited for 57304 returning with the 1A55 1436 Holyhead to London Euston which I photographed near Valley and then again at Abergele. Hope JL got some goods shots and many thanks to DR. Many thanks also to all people who provided info.

31st October 2009 --- Br Large Logo Blue 37425 has recently been reinstated after long repairs. The loco worked the 6D19 Warrington to Holyhead RTZ and 6F19 Holyhead to Warrington freight with DBS 37401. With the working which sadly will be stopping soon, the train approaches Valley shortly after departing the Aluminium works." />

Eddie Stobart livery on 92017, and 57003 tnt 57007 on RHTT

Friday 30 October 2009: Friday 30th October 2009 --- An early start, firstly going to one of my favourite locations, at Brantham to photograph the 3S60 Stowmarket to Shenfield RHTT, which to my relief it wasn't sheds. It was DRS' 57003 and 57007, which I hadn't photographed on RHTT before. Whilst visiting, I also photographed 90009, 90014 on southbound National Express services to London, and National Express liveried 90008, and 90004 on northbound National Express services to Norwich. (When spending my week in anglia earlier in the year, 90004 wasn't out for a photograph so I was very satisfied to get a shot of this today, this just leaves 90007 for a photograph in the anglia region). I then went to Ansty Canal to photograph newly painted 92017 in stobart livery leading 92012 on the 4H24 Wembley to Trafford Park intermodal. 92017 had worked from Warrington in the early hours of the morning. At Ansty canal, I photographed 66422 leading 66412 Malcolm on the 4M34 Grangemouth to Daventry. Ironically I had photographed 66422 at Bridgwater 2days before with 66411 Eddie the Engine. 30th October 2009 --- DRS 57003 leads the RHTT with 57007 tailling through Brantham whilst working the 3S60 Stowmarket to Shenfield sandite train. Click here for Stobart liveried 92017 " /> 30th October 2009 --- A few days before the Tesco contract leaves DRS for DBS. DBS have repainted 92017 into the Eddie Stobart rail livery and has been named "Bart the Engine". The loco's first major working was today when it worked the 6M66 Warrington BQ to Wembley and 4H24 12:19 Wembley to Trafford Park returning intermodal. The 4H24 train runs adjacent to Ansty canal, with freshly painted 92017 leading DBS Grey 92012 DIT. " />

Thursday 29 October 2009: 29th October 2009 --- Today I caught the train up to the West Midlands before photographing several interesting workings. (Many thanks to DR) I firstly went to Kingsbury, photographing DB Schenker's EWS liveried 66059 which was working an early 6V40 Lackenby to Llanwern, followed by Freightliner's 66530 on the 4O54 Leeds to Southampton. I then photographed InterCity liveried 31454 hauled the 1Z06 Derby to Long Marston test train.With a number of freight flows and '47s' required, Colas Rail have recently been hiring in Riviera Trains locos. 47769, 47805, 47839 have all been used by Colas recently, adding her name to the list was Br Two Tone Green 47812 which worked the 6Z47 Dollands Moor to Small Heath returning as 6Z48 Burton to Dollands Moor on Thursday. I photographed the well missed sight of a Green machine on a freight train at Portway running slightly early. Prior to the steel working, I photographed 66037 on the 6M57 Lindsey to Kingsbury tanks and GBRf 66726 on hire to Fastline hauling the 4V09 Chaddesden to Portbury coal. Few minutes after the spoon, in the opposite direction came, DB 66135 on the 6D44 Bescot to Toton followed by DB Schenker's 60019 on the 6M82 Walsall to Tunstead cement.I then went back to Tamworth to photograph an unexpected surprise, a bizzare combination of two Scotrail skodas, 90021 and 90024 which paired up on the 4O10 Trafford Park to Southampton intermodal. I then went to Portway for 60084 working the 6E41 Westerleigh to Lindsey tanks. Back at Tamworth I could have got the 1548 train back but for I would make the most of the trip and stay on in the awkward conditions. As I am a big fan of 86s, I wanted to photograph 86614 and 86628 on the 4L92. I also photographed 90048 and 66542. A surprise 60045 on a diverted 6K50 Toton to Bescot and a fastline coal on the high level. Rounding off the day was 31233 in Bristol Temple Meads. Many thanks to DR and to all gen posters. Eddie the Engine makes first appearance in the South West

Wednesday 28 October 2009: 28th October 2009 --- Today I went to Bridgwater on the Taunton stopper to photograph one of the rarest locos found in the South West, 66411 which has a lot of added interest due her Stobart livery and 'Eddie the Engine' name. This paired up today, with DRS Compass liveried 66422 working the 6V74 0154 Crewe Coal Sidings to Bridgwater nuclear flasks. I photographed the pair shunting the wagons in the compound, notice the loading/unloading of the nuclear flasks in some photographs and the different positions of the crane. Making the day for me was, when it was about to come out in full sun with the flasks in the compound. It was very nice meeting, Cellophane Steve, LJS, Cam, 47840chaser and co. The return working was the 6M67 Bridgwater to Crewe. I photographed the Eddie at many different angles, including as I wanted to make the most of the livery. I also took shots of the cabends to show that stobart were working with DRS as they will be working with DBS in a few weeks time. At Bridgwater, I also photographed 67024 which had replaced 67017 on the Taunton to Cardiff services. 67017 is due an exam and is heading up to Warrington tonight after working to Ludgershall. I then caught the train to Yatton, where I photographed 66237 tnt 66198 on the 3S59 Barton Hill to Barton Hill via Hereford and Weston Super Mare RHTT. I then photographed 66412 leading 66411 on the 6M67. At Bristol Temple Meads, I photographed Network Rail's 31233 which had failed whilst hauling the 1Z12 the previous day. Replaced by 31459, 31233 attempt of returning home didn't go down well as she only made on the 0Z31 a few miles north before returning to the Bath Road Spur at Bristol Temple Meads. Hope Grumpy got a good shot of 6M67, Many thanks to the lizard for the info/updates as always and LJS for the 6M67 updates. Also Many thanks to DR for his help. A very enjoyable day.

28th October 2009 --- With the Tesco Express contract being taken over by DB Schenker in about 2weeks time. The Eddie Stobart livery carried by 66411 and 66414, is soon to become history. When the contract finishes with DRS the stobart stickers will surely be removed. However, DBS have already repainted 92017 (Bart) into Stobart livery, and 66124 is following. There have been some good workings in the South West this month, including D1015 on Silver bullets, Br Blue 31106 on a test train, D7017 on WSR freight and 66704 on a FGW move. Adding a name to that list was Stobart liveried '66411' which today made its 'maiden' appearance in the South West when it was paired up with DRS Compass liveried 66422 on the 6V74 Crewe Coal Sidings to Bridgwater nuclear flasks. Eddie the Engine awaits to depart Bridgwater compound with the 6M67 Bridgwater to Crewe Coal sidings return nukes. Nice meeting, Cellophane Steve, Cam, LJS, 47840chaser and co. Saturday 17 October 2009: Saturday 17th October 2009 --- Today I went to Acton Gate photographing 47773 in impossible light on the 1Z56 Tyseley to Carlisle, this tour would be taken over by 5690 Leander later, followed shortly by in thankfully much better light, Hanson Traction's Artemis liveried 56312 on the 1Z47 Shrewsbury to Carlisle Compass tour which consisted of anglia and virgin stock. I then went to Lea Marston and photographed the 1Z64 Taunton to York Spitfire tour which was due to be hauled by 37676 and 37516 with 47787 providing train heat. However 47787 failed whilst hauling the ECS and was replaced by 47851. 37516 only lasted until Bristol Parkway on the tour, when its engine kept shutting down, 47851 therefore was brought off the rear and tucked inside both 37s, helping 37676 provide the power and provide its train heat. The train departed Bristol Parkway 98minutes late. I then went to Tamworth low level where I photographed another rare working, GBRF 66704 hauling barriers 6330 and 6338 with new FGW refurbished buffet coach 40808 to Laira, however it was rare because 50049 was thrown in the consist as it needed to go to Canton for repairs joining 50031. This 5Z84 Carlisle to Canton was due to run Friday but was caped due to the driver running out of hours.It ran Saturday but went via the WCML reversing at Nuneaton so a shot was needed at Tamworth because I wanted the 50 behind the shed. I then went to Charfield and photographed a very good combination of tugs, 60011 in mainline blue and 60054 in Petroleum livery. 60054 had failed hauling the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh tanks and was rescued by 60011, I photographed the train running 3hours late. A very good day with many thanks as always to SS for 5z84 info, and to all posters on the Jorvic Growler tour, hope they had a good time and hope RVM has a good time in the north.

17th October 2009 --- GBRF 66704 'Colchester Power Signalbox' leads the 5Z84 Carlisle to Cardiff Canton which consisted of Large Logo blue faded 50049 Defiance heading for repairs joining 50031 Hood at Canton, Barrier coaches 6338 and 6330 with Newly refurbished buffet coach 40808 in the middle. This train was due to run yesterday but the driver ran out of hours yesterday at Carlisle resulting in the move being caped. However, the train ran today with an 0820 departure via the WCML. The train reversed at Nuneaton before heading to Canton via Chepstow. The train running slightly early passes Tamworth low level heading towards Nuneaton." /> 17th October 2009 --- Hanson Traction's Artemis liveried 56312 leads the 1Z47 Shrewsbury to Carlisle at Acton Gate" /> 17th October 2009 --- After several problems occurred yesterday with the ECS for Spitfire railtour's Jorvic Growler, after it ran 221minutes late due to the failure of 47787. The Jorvic Growler ran from Taunton to York as 1Z64, however tour locos, WCRC 37676+37516 experienced problems when 37516 engine kept shutting down at Bristol Parkway. 47851 was despatched from the rear after it took the ECS down yesterday, and placed inside both '37s' and helped power the tour with 37676 to York. The tour departed Parkway 98minutes late and slightly made up time. The triple header passes Lea Marston." /> 17th October 2009 --- Another failure today, was Petroleum liveried 60054 which had failed whilst hauling the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh loaded murco bogie tanks, the train departed 105 minutes early and was nearly three hours late when passing Charfield. 60011 leads the bizarre combination at Charfield." />

14th October 2009 --- Certainly more than an eye opener was D1015 'Western Champion' disguised as D1054 'Western Governor' and on hire to Colas, was used to haul the 6Z52 Quidhampton to Tavistock junction. The refreshing sight and sound is recorded accelerating away from Taunton running slightly late. The consist is 15 silver bullets heading for storage at Burngullow junction." />

DB Schenker liveried 66152 returns ECS to Eastleigh

Sunday 11 October 2009: Sunday 11th October 2009 --- DB Schenker liveried 66152 was involved in the Cumbrian Mountain Tornado on Saturday 10th October 2009 ,running from Worcester Shrub Hill as 1Z76 as far as Hellifield where new LNER A1 '60163' Tornado took the train forward. The loco then took the tour back from Preston to Worcester where it would need to take the Empty coaching stock back to Eastleigh the next day. Many thanks to the lizard for the times, I was able to get to Charfield just in time for it on the 5Z84 1356 Worcester Shrub Hill to Eastleigh ECS. The tain was running several minutes early behind the 14:25 Bristol Parkway voyager. Luckily the rain had stopped and the clouds started to breaking up.

11th October 2009 --- DB Schenker's liveried 66152 hauls the 5Z84 13:56 Worcester Shurb Hill to Eastleigh ECS move at Charfield. The stock was used for a Pathfinder tour the previous day. Saturday 10 October 2009: Saturday 10th October 2009 --- Today I went to Grendon early morning, to see one of my favourite classes, the electric 86s. No. 86259 named Les Ross in his stunning traditional blue livery hauled the 06:27 London Euston to Carlisle as far as Crewe, where she would be replaced by 46233 Duches of Sutherland. I then went to Helsby to photograph the penultimate 6F19 Holyhead to Warrington arpley hauled by recently reinstated from repairs, EWS liveried 37401. Notice the horns now on the top of its nose and the black headcode box. I then photographed 86259 in Crewe station sidings after 46233 had taken its earlier train forward. 86259 would need to take the tour back to Euston. At Ashchurch, Natton I photographed Loadhaul liveried 60059 on the 6Z44 Aberthaw to Lindsey tanks. Many thanks to the lizard, DR, GG, RVM and all others for the updates/info. Friday 9 October 2009: Friday 9th October 2009 --- Before catching the train to Cheltenham, I photographed 60096 on the 6M96 Margam to Corby steel approaching Severn Tunnel junction. I then went to Ashchurch station where I photographed 60045 reversing into Ashchurch MoD with the 6B36 Didcot yard to Ashchurch MoD. I then photographed 66098 on the 6V40 Lackenby to Margam steel being overtaken by 66017 on the 6V05 Round Oak to Margam stee. I then photographed 6V40 departing the loop. I photographed 66080 northbound on the 6M43 Llanwern to Round Oak steel followed by DR98960 on MPV. I then went to Natton, where 60045 had departed from Ashchurch MoD early on the returning 6A36 to Didcot, I also photographed 66080 on the 6E09 Margam to Lackenby steel followed by 43013 and 43014 on the 1Z20 Paddington to Derby NMT. I waited for 60059 returning on the 6E41 Westerleigh to Lindsey tanks. I then went to Long Marston where I photographed Network Rail's 31602 top and tailed with 31105 departing with one coach only heading back to Derby, with plenty of clag. I then went to Honeybourne, photographing 43028 arriving at the platform. I then photographed the Network Rail's '31s' going onto the mainline at Honeybourne. At Horton Road on the way back home, I photographed Advenza freight 47237, just after the news that Advenza had gone bust. Thursday 1 October 2009: Thursday 1st October 2009 --- Despite the amount of tugs back in service now, more than expected due to the sheds being needed for sandite duties. Not one tug was allocated to the 6A11/6B33 which was shedded. The surprise of the day was the allocation of Mainline Blue liveried 60011 to the 6M81 Margam to Round Oak loaded covered steel. The tug has become a regular recently on the Lydney Line after many 6M94/6V92 trips. However today, the tug made an appearance on the 6V07 Round Oak to Margam empty covered steel, the return of 6M81. Running 25minutes early, the train passes Purton in the unexpected full sun. Many thanks to rene1015 for all the info and help. Many thanks also to RVM!

Tuesday 29 September 2009: Tuesday 29th September 2009 --- With many reinstatements of recent tugs, due to the sandite seasons (sheds needed for RHTT seasons) There were easily two tugs available for the two tank trains. With 60011 as spare, 60054 still wearing its Petroleum livery worked Robeston to Westerleigh loaded murco bogie tanks, which I photographeded at Gatcombe adjacent to the Severn estury. I then photographed 60073 at Undy on the 6B33 Theale to Margam empty murco bogie tanks, the train ran on the relief. 60073 had worked the 6A11 Robeston to Theale loaded tanks.

Saturday 26 September 2009: Saturday 26th September 2009 --- A very early start, with knowing that there was a rare opportunity to get three different liveried locos at Taunton, I decided this was the right morning to go. The locos were 66725, which was in Platform 1 at Taunton after it apparently failed whilst working the 4V11 Peterborough to Fairwater sleeper train. The 4E31 was caped and the loco has remained in the platform all weekend. Secondly, due to poor FGW 57/6 reliability with 57603 at Brush and 57604/605 broken, Virgin's 57308 was hired in, ironically ex FGW 47846 Thor, the loco worked the 1C99 London Paddington to Penzance overnight sleeper. 57602 was working the 1A40 Penzance to Paddington night sleeper, which both crossed at Taunton. Nice meeting Shrek at Taunton. I then just did 60011 working 0B33 Theale to A.D.J and 66152 on the Wembley to A.D.j steel at a Gloomy Bishton. I then went to the Dean Forest Railway Autumn gala, where I photographed 31466 in EWS livery, and E6001 in Br Green. I photographed at Lydney Town meaning I could also photographed the shuttles. I also photographed D9521 on a Parkend service. Many thanks to everyone at the DFR and to everyone who attended the gala. I then went to Bishton, for the rare sight (nowadays) of the 6Z35 Morton-on-the-Lugg to Acton yard being hauled by a class 60, no.60091. I photographed it running 130minutes late at the Bishton Flyover. This was due to a late traincrew and an electronics failure in the tunnel. Many thanks to the lizard for the info. I also photographed 59205 on the 6C80 Machen to Westbury hanson stone. Nice meeting, Shrek, SCLUB, Cellophane Steve and PI at Bishton.

Saturday 19 September 2009: Saturday 19th September 2009 --- Today I went and photographed one of my favourite diesels, D1015 Western Champion which today provided the power on the 1Z52 06.30 Didcot Parkway to Blaenau Ffestiniog "Western Slator" Pathfinder tour, I photographed it arriving into Birmingham International platform 5 and passing Marston Green just north of Birmingham International. I then went to Coaley near Cam and Dursley and photographed recently reinstated 60054 still wearing its famous Trainload Petrolum on the 6E41 Westerleigh to Lindsey tanks, the loco had worked the 6V98 Lindsey to Westerleigh tanks early in the morning. I also photographed a new taxi service at Cam and Dursley station, very interesting and well worth photographing traction engines which were giving people rides along the main road from the station car park. At Bishton level crossing, I photographed DB Schenker's EWS liveried 59202 on the main hauling the 6Z83 1410 Machen to Acton Yard. The loco had worked the 6B80 Westbury to Machen empty stone. Saturday 12 September 2009: 12th September 2009 --- Spitfire railtours operated "The Cumbrian Coaster" which ran from Birmingham International to Carlisle return via Cumbrian coast. 66414 "James the Engine" in stobart livery lead the 1Z19 Bham International to Carlisle (as far as Crewe until It was needed at Carnforth due to the failure of 37229), I photographed it leaving Nantwich. 37229 and 37510 would take the train forward to Carlisle from Crewe Coal sidings. 37229 had problems and was replaced latter I believe by 37682. - I photographed 67012 leading 67014 on the 08:14 London Marylebone to Wrexham General at Cosford. - I then went to the Great Central Railway to Kinchley Lane near Quorn and photographed > 55019 leading the 1A23 13:00 Loughborough to Leicester North > D8098 top-and-tailed with 37314 on the 2C27 13:40 Loughborough to Rothley Brook > 63601 on the 1A25 Loughborough to Leicester North > Visiting loco 50007 on the 2A30 14:25 Loughborough to Leicester North > D6535 pushing the 4 BIG set 7059 on the 2C30 14:35 Loughbrough to Rothley Brook > D8098 top-and-tailed with D5830 on the 2C32 14:50 Loughborough to Rothley Brook > 47714 still in Anglia livery and due to leave the GCR after the event, working the 1A33 15:10 Loughborough to Leicester North, I then went to Cossington and photographed: > 66129 on the 6E38 Colnbrook to Lindsey oil tanks > 66518 on the Mountsorrel Self Discharge train to Luton, > 60009 on the 6M34 Crawley to Peak Forest

A sunny evening at Purton for two freights

Friday 11 September 2009: Friday 11th September 2009 --- Today after school, I popped out and made the most of the late rare evening sunshine to photograph two freight trains which are probably the most popular in South Wales at the moment. The 6B47 which is very popular with enthusiasts due to the demise of the tugs and the Advenza scraps which have recently been using the new Advenza '66s'. The tug allocation for the 6B47 didn't disappoint, with 60073 only recently reinstated to traffic after a long time off the mainline was the perfect choice. I photographed the train at Purton which was running a good 20minutes early. The 6V67 Shipley to Cardiff Tidal was right behind 60073, and was being hauled by Advenza 66841. 66842 was at Tidal working from Barry Docks to Tidal, whilst 66844 was at Tilbury. 66843 will be fully in traffic soon. 11th September 2009 --- With many more reinstatements to follow, 60073 has been a target for many railenthusiasts when it came out of storage last weekend. Going to Carlisle, Tees and Doncaster, the tug made its way down on Wednesday morning and took over from 60013 on the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh and 6B47 duties. This is the first time this year that 60073 has been in traffic. The tug with the 6B47 empty murco tanks in tow passes Purton just minutes infront of the 6V67. The old severn railway bridge used to go over the railway line (near to the end of the wagon in the photo) and would cross both the railway line and the river in this shot." /> 11th September 2009 --- The Advenza fleet hasn't had as much activity this week as most previous weeks, but on the 11th September 2009 with the advenza '57s' making no movement, 66844 still being at Tilbury, 66841 joined 66842 (which has been working between Barry Docks and Tidal) at Cardiff Tidal, when it worked the 6V67 Shipley to Cardiff Tidal loaded scrap train. The train running early followed right behind the 6B47 (see previous photo) down the Lydney line and passed Purton in the late evening light." />

Crompton at Claydon, Clayton at Chinnor and Possibly last loco hauled to Weymouth (DBS 37s)

Saturday 5 September 2009: 5th September 2009 --- After a long wait of 10 years, 37s finally returned to the Saturday Weymouth diagram instead of the usual pair of _67s_ to mark the expected end of another long established loco hauled diagram which could see the Dorset resort without any loco hauled activity next Summer. After being rumoured to make an appearance on the Taunton to Cardiff diagram only for it not to take place, FGW this time requested two DBS _37s_ to mark the final day of the loco hauled diagram, with 37670 and 37401 providing the power, I photographed the pair at speed through Newton St Loe on the approach to Twerton tunnel with possibly the last loco hauled 2O72 Bristol Temple Meads to Weymouth...only time will tell if this was the last appearance. I also photographed them passing Wyke Champflower. (Nice meeting Cam) After the possible last loco hauled train to Weymouth, I went to Cholsey where I photographed 60013 on the 6B33 Theale to Margam empty murco bogie tanks on the main after departing 21minutes late. I then photographed 08022 "lion" top-and-tailed with 08060 "unicorn" approaching Cholsey with a service on the Cholsey and Wallingford railway, a 1310 departure from Wallingford to Cholsey. I then went to photograph the Aylesbury Vale Venturer by Joint line railtours, which was top-and-tailed WCRC 37516 and 33207 "Jim Martin". I photographed 37516 at Quainton road with the 1Z37 Worksop to Claydon via Marylebone with 33207 on the rear, I then photographed 33207 leading on the return 1Z38 Claydon to Worksop via Marylebone approaching Quainton road and departing. I then went to the Chinnor and Princes Risborough railway, and I went to Risborough and I was kindly taken around the yard from a member of the station staff. I photographed the sole surviving out of the 117, Class '17' Clayton, D8568 which is under restoration, and its engine has been started but is yet to move under its own power. Class 17s were built between 1962 and 1965, and they started to be withdrawn in 1968, the final being withdrawn 1971. Most had been scrapped by the end of 1975. (Nice meeting DR at a few of the locations). Also many thanks to the lizard for the times.

Friday 4 September 2009: Friday 4th September 2009 --- Today I photographed 66194 leading 66104 replacing the usual solo tug on the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh loaded murco bogie tanks at Caldicot Pill. This working needs to be double headed sheds if a class 60 is unavailable due to it being too heavy for a solo shed. I then went to a great location at Coaley to photograph the 6E41 Westerleigh to Lindsey tanks which was left in the hands of featured often this year on my site, 60074 which had worked the overnight 6V98. I then photographed the National Measurement train which was lead by 43062 and 43013 top-and-tailed on the 1Z20 Swansea to Derby RTC. Going back home, I photographed Thomas the Tank Engine approaching the Second Severn crossing. At Bishton, I photographed the 6Z83 Machen to West Drayton stone hauled by 59201 shortly followed by 67001 leading 67016 on the 2C79 1400 Cardiff Central to Taunton. I then did some more shots in the evening at Bishton featuring 67001 and 66068.

Tuesday 1 September 2009: 1st September 2009 Firstly Many thanks to Jack for the top day, to the lizard for the info and to DR for the times! Today We decided to go to the West Midlands to luckily find the best weather on the two best workings. Firstly we photographed 57315 arriving into Crewe station on the 1V31 Holyhead to Cardiff. We then went to Alsager (thankyou RVM for the kind comment), to photograph 37688 leading 20306 tnt with cargo d stock blue and grey MK2s and 3s with 47832 on the rear. The 37 and 20 were working in multi as the 5Z44 Crewe Carriage sidings to Barrow Hill. I then went to Crewe Railway age where I photographed several diesel, electric and steam locomotives. We then went to Heamies Farm photographing several freight trains before heading to Ansty canal, for 56312 on the 4Z91 Dollands Moor to Hams Hall intermodal. I also photographed some WCML freight including 4L92 and 86501 on the 4M87.

1st September 2009 --- DRS 66432 hauls the 4M34 Coatbridge to Daventry service under the threatening sky at Heamies Farm" /> 1st September 2009 --- Arriva Trains Wales branded 57315 leads the 1V31 0532 Holyhead to Cardiff Central at Crewe" /> 1st September 2009 --- Direct Rail Services Compass liveried 37688 leads DRS 20306, a rake of cargo d blue and grey stock with DRS 47832 on the rear. The train was running as the 5Z44 Crewe Carriage Sidings to Barrow Hill. The stock had been used for a retrorailtours railtour over the weekend. The combination passes Alsager running 67minutes late. Thursday 27 August 2009: 27th August 2009 --- "The English Riviera Statesman" operated by the West Coast Railway Company, was hauled by 47787 and 47760 top-and-tailed from Nottingham to Kingswear, running as 1Z93, I photographed 47787 exiting Wickwar tunnel slightly early with a lot of clag and a rake of virgin/chocolate and cream stock. Tuesday 25 August 2009: Tuesday 25th August 2009 - Today I went to Cholsey, knowing that the amount to be had was greater than back at home. I firstly photographed EWS 60039 and 66098 when getting off the train at Didcot Parkway. 60039 had recently been involved in Thingley engineering trains, and was parked in a great position. It is believed that this is likely to be stored with 60040 despite recent reinstatement and with DBS in need of tugs as their sheds will be busy on RHTT duties. I then photographed 37688 light engine running as 0Z25 Gresty Bridge to Eastleigh to pick up 20301, 20306, 47712 and a dining car. Many thanks to rene1015 for the updates, and to the lizard and GWOT for the info. I also photographed 60059 on the 6B33 Theale to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks. Many thanks to RVM/GG for the updates. I then photographed a bonus, 6V27 Eastleigh to Hinksey yard due to the fact it was double headed with 67025 DIT after its tyre turning at Eastleigh, recent being for its replacement of 66153/67016 on the Tauntons to Cardiffs. 66111 did lead. Many thanks to the lizard for the info. I also photographed some liners/intermodals still awaiting to be uploaded. I then photographed 37229 hauling 2 DR stoneblowers from Ashford to Cardiff Canton Taff Vale sidings. Many thanks to the lizard, Greg and RD for the info and to many others for the updates. Pleased that GG/redvanman got a good shot. I then photographed it again at Duffryn in the sun. Many thanks to Derek for his info.

25th August 2009 --- 37688 now repainted into DRS Compass livery, and now with its Kingmoor TMD nameplates repositioned, ran light as the 0Z25 Crewe Gresty Bridge to Eastleigh to pick up a dining car, 20301 and 47712. The loco passes Cholsey with plenty of thrash and running 52minutes early. Many thanks to the lizard, rene1015 for the info" /> 25th August 2009 --- DB Schenker's reliable 67025, recently working Cardiffs to Tauntons, had gone to Eastleigh for tyre turning during the beginning of the week. The skip returned dead in train behind 66111 on the 6V27 Eastleigh yard to Hinskey yard. The pair pass Cholsey on the relief. I guess 67025 will replace 67005, which is due in exam soon and will partner 67016 on the Taunton to Cardiffs." /> 25th August 2009 --- DRS 37229 ran light engine from Willesden Brent to Ashford as 0Z37 to collect two stone blowers YZA DR 80302 and YZA DR 80303, to take them to Cardiff Canton Taff Vale sidings with a 6Z37 1200 departure from Ashford. The Growler will then work the 0Z81 Canton TVSD to Norwich. The train passes Cholsey running on time on the relief. Many thanks to the lizard, Greg, RD and others for the info/updates" />

Monday 24 August 2009: Friday 21st August 2009 --- After photographing 47501 at Colchester and 31105 at Ipswich yard, coming home I expected to relax from what was, a tiring but exciting and enjoyable weeks holiday in East Anglia, this plan was soon out of the window when told that DRS 37218 with 9481, 977997, 1256, 5981, and 37602 were still working a test train in the South West. (Many thanks to the lizard for the times and to Lee for the times and to Greg for the info/updates). 37602 and 37218 were working the 1Z12 0933 Bristol Temple Meads to Derby via Newport, Bristol and Chepstow several times. I photographed the 1505 Chepstow (from Lydney loop) to Newport at Magor on the relief and then with 37602 leading back, at Llandevenny heading back to Derby from Newport. Saturday 22nd August 2009 --- I photographed 60019 on the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh loaded murco bogie tanks at Bulwark, then I went to Pixash to photograph West Coast Railway company 47760 leading 47786 top-and-tailed at Pixash and Magor, this was a railtour from Norwich to Caridff Central. 47760 lead to Bristol Temple Meads where the tour reversed leading to 47786 leading to Cardiff Central. I then photographed 59202 on the 6Z83 Machen to West Drayton (Many thanks to the lizard for the info) over the Bishton flyover, followed by 47760+47786 returning home on the main under the flyover. Monday 24th August 2009 --- 67025 needed tyre turning and 67005 is due an exam at Crewe soon, 67016 is due to return but was not intime for today so loco traction came in the hands of 66153. This is the second time only a shed has made an appearance on the Cardiff to Taunton FGW services (66006 being the other which is also featured on this gallery). I photographed 66153 leading the 2U14 Taunton to Cardiff at Magor and then 2U24 Taunton to Cardiff at Undy, I also photographed Advenza 66841 on a northbound scrap at Bishton, Many thanks to the lizard for the info, to GWOT for the 67info, to Cam and DR for the help and to RD for the updates.

Bath and Bristol for Network Rail 31465

Wednesday 12 August 2009: Wednesday 12th August 2009 --- Today many thanks must go to and will go to the lizard for the info, to DLR for the times and to Cam for his help. I firstly went to Bristol Temple Meads on the 1139 service from Severn Tunnel junction to meet the 5Z06 09:57 Bristol Temple Meads to Eastleigh via Bristol Barton Hill and Bath. The train was over 2hours late due to not bothering going via Barton Hill, so the pair started from Bristol Temple Meads with an on time departure. The Peds followed the 1200 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington HST so a shot at Bath Spa was possible. The Peds were 31233 and luckily (from my point of view) 31465, which was leading. I then went back to Bristol Temple Meads and photographed 66522 Shanks on the 6Z87 Taunton Fairwater to Crewe Basford Hall freight (Many thanks to the lizard, Cam and Lee for the info). I then photographed EWS liveried 67003 arriving into Bristol Temple Meads on the 1Z96 London Victoria to Bristol Temple Meads (from Westbury). Clan Line was the loco previously hauling the train. Collection also includes Hanson 59102 on the 6Z83 Machen to West Drayton stone.

12th August 2009 --- Network Rail's 31465 passes Bath leading the 1Z06 Bristol Temple Meads to Eastleigh test train. 31233 was on the rear. Many thanks to the lizard for the times" />

Plenty of Action on the Great Western Mainline

Thursday 13 August 2009: Thursday 13th August 2009 --- Today after photographing Arriva Train Wales' 57314 on the 1V31 05:32 Holyhead to Cardiff Central Welsh Assembly government express, I went to Didcot Parkway on the Great Western mainline for 70013, which was hauling the 1Z88 London Paddinton to Oxford via Redhill Cathedral Express. I then photographed 31285 with a test train which was in the siding at Didcot Parkway. At Cholsey, I photographed the 6V38 Marchwood to Didcot hauled by 66013, and 66096 before photographing DRS 37059+37608 recently repainted and cleaned into DRS Compass livery, hauling three Ocean liner coaches from Eastleigh to Crewe as 5Z88 (Many thanks to Lee for the times). The pair were due to leave at 09:40 but left 3hours late due to faults with 37608. 37059 was believed to be only powering. Many thanks to DR, RVM, Lizard, RS and Cam for their info/updates. I then photographed 60059 Loadhaul hauling the 6B33 Theale to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks, 60019 was working 6B03/6B04 due to 6B13/B47 being caped. I fianlly went to Purley on Thames where I photographed 66588 on a westbound liner and 47739/47727 on the 6Z48 Burton to Dollands Moor steel train. Many thanks to DR, RVM, Cam and others for the updates.

13th August 2009 --- DRS 37059 leads 37608, both recently repainted into Compass livery and cleaned up, hauling the 5Z88 09:40 Eastleigh to Crewe Coal Sidings, consisting of 3 Ocean liner coaches, The train nearly 3hours down due to faults discovered on 37608, pass Cholsey thankfully on the relief." />

60004 reinstated as 60059 works 6B47, 86702/701 leave Long Marston with ETL

Tuesday 11 August 2009: Tuesday 11th August 2009 --- Today I photographed a surprise recently reinstated to traffic, 60004 which worked 0V98, then 6V98 Lindsey to Westerleigh tanks. The tug then worked the 6E41 Westerleigh to Lindsey tanks which I photographed approaching Cheltenham. I then went to Worcester and photographed 86701/702 which left Long Marston for Crewe LNWR. (Many thanks to JB for his info). The loco hauling them was 66728, I then photographed them passing Droitwich Spa.I then went to Undy cycling quickly, because Loadhaul 60059 was working the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks but was running 30minutes early and in the sun, Many thanks to DR, JB and others for their updates.

92031 rescues 37419, DB livery 37670+37401 to Kyle and Inverness, Royal Scotsman, Jacobite and Sleeper

Saturday 8 August 2009: Friday 7th August to Monday 11th August 2009 --- A cracking trip in Scotland which unexpectedly consisted of four class '37s'. On Friday 8th August 2009, I went up to Ladygill north of Beattock to catch up, the 6S51 Carlisle yard to Mossend ballast train which was being hauled by recently reinstated and repainted into the new DB Schenker livery 37419. The growler had failed just south of Beattock loop with what is believed to be a coolant/power unit problem. The train was delayed for 220 minutes. 66420 ran light engine to take the train to Beattock loop. DB Schenker's one of only two EWS red liveried 92031 which ran all the way from Mossend to Beattock light engine as 1Z99 to take the train forward. 37419's failure had led to severe delays to other operating trains and there was no southbound train for nearly 2 hours. I immediately went north of Beattock not knowing the exact amount of time possible. Thankfully the sun went in as can be seen on previous shots it had moved round horribly. Unusally there were three freight trains before 6S51, which included 66107 on the 6S36 Dalston to Grangemouth, Freightliner's 66563 on the 4S12, 66420 light engine and 66423 on the 4S43 Daventry to Grangemouth you shop we drop. I then headed to Fort William where it was very pleasing to have 67011 on the night sleeper as the previous attempt for the train I had 67007 (which was working the Inverness sleeper) so it was very nice to have a different skip. I then went to Roy Bridge where I photographed the Royal Scotsman hauled by 47804 which was heading to Spean Bridge and the night sleeper which was heading to London Euston. Saturday 8th August 2009 --- I photographed 67011 on the 1Y11 Edinburgh to Fort William, I then went to Mallaig where I photographed 47804 top-and-tailed with 37676 on the Royal Scotsman which were working the 1H86 08:23 Spean Bridge to Fort William via Mallaig. I then photographed 47804 leading into Morar heading to Fort William. I then photographed the 'Jacobite' which was being hauled by 'K1' 62005 from Fort William to Mallaig. I photographed the train arriving into a windy Mallaig. I then went over to the Highland mainline to capture recently repainted into DB Schenker, 37670 St Blazey which lead 37401 (which had travelled from Toton to Inverness in just over a day) on the 1Z37 Edinburgh to Inverness Northern Belle. I photographed the train which was running 20 minutes late speeding through Blair Atholl, climbing Druimuachdar, passing Slochd and arriving into a sunny Inverness. I then photographed them running ECS as 5Z37 at Nairn from Inverness to Aberdeen with 37401. Both signal boxes are sadly no longer used. Sunday 9th August --- I photographed the 1Z23 Aberdeen to Kyle of Lochalsh at Clachnaharry for the record, shortly followed by a shot at Killin farm crossing, south of Garve. I then photographed the pair at Garve station as they had to wait for a unit to clear the line. I then went to Strath in a spell of brightness, which was followed by a shot arriving and departing Achnasheen. I then went to Ardnarff near Strathcarron. Featuring for the first time on this website, the final outward shot of the tour was arriving into Kyle of Lochalsh. The weather forecast was false, but the rain didn't come until 18:40, thankfully. I did a shot climbing through Plockton and then passing a damp Achnasheen. The final shot was taken at 1/125 at Dingwall. To complete the day, I photographed the night sleeper from Inverness to Euston (London) at Kingussie in a monsoon, which made the train glisten. Monday 10th August 2009 --- I photographed DB Schenker's 37670 leading 37401 on the 1Z38 Inverness to Edinburgh via Perth south of Dalwhinnie. I then went to Abington to photograph one of the most appealing freight trains north of Carlisle on the WCML, due to the fact it is often still hauled by a pair of Freightliner cans. The pair were 86628 and 86607. I then went to Greenholme to photograph the 1M44 Shieldmuir to Warrington mail led by 325013. The mail will be under DB Schenker next year after they won the contract from GB Railfreight. Many thanks to rene1015 for the Kyle times.

Friday 31 July 2009: Friday 31st July 2009 --- Another early get up, for what would be a very long day, with limited amount to do, when posted that Yeoman 59002 was working the 7C77 Acton Yard to Merehead empty stone, a quick trip on a FGW 158 to Westbury was imminent. Many thanks to Happy Hippy for the posting and many thanks to Derek/RVM for the info. With at least one, of the two remaining Yeoman 59/0s due for a repaint in Aggregate Industries livery over the August Bank holiday, 59004 and 59002 will be photographed regularly in the next upcoming weeks by Railenthusiasts. I was lucky to photograph 59004 a few days before at Westbury (can be found in collections further down the page). I then went to Lydney junction on the Dean Forest Railway to photograph 37263 which is being fully restored and another great job by the DFR looks well and truly on the cards. I then went to Purton to photograph DB Schenker's 60059 Swindon Dalesman which has returned to traffic after a recent failure to work the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks. 60059 has recently failed again. 60059 has failed again recently and will be replaced by 60013 when it comes down on the 6V19. When catching the train from Dawlish to Taunton, I got off and photographed 66623 in Fairwater yard. Many thanks to Derek for the voyager times.

Tornado and Okehampton (02.08.09) - Collection now complete

Sunday 2 August 2009: Sunday 2nd August 2009 --- Today I used my railrover ticket yet again, catching the train to Exeter St Davids where I decided to catch 142063 to Okehampton to get a shot of thumper 1132 and to visit the Dartmoor Railway. Okehampton was a very nice restored station full of tourists and enthusiasts and it is very pleasing to see the line open again. I then went on a South West trains 159 to Dawlish, walking to Dawlish Warren for the curve shot of 60163 'Tornado' again running slightly early with the Torbay Express from Kingswear to Bristol Temple Meads. I then went back on the 159 that I had earlier caught to Exeter St Davids, I overtook Tornado, as the new A1 needed water. Getting off at Taunton, I got a shot of the locomotive passing 40steps bridge and then in the station with the sunsetting. The steam waited to follow my 2020 Taunton to Bristol Temple Meads train back. Many thanks to Derek for the times

Two Loco Hauled Trains to Weymouth, Royal Skip and GBRF 73s. 47s at BTM

Saturday 1 August 2009: Saturday 1st August 2009 --- With the threat there was this year, the year before and next year of an HST working these services, it was a matter of picking the right day for a ride behind the 67s from Bristol down to the seaside terminus. With not a lot happening this weekend, with a false forecast, I thought today would be right even if it only involved about 3hours sleep from a nights visit to Exeter. Reasons being, was there was a UK railtour from London Waterloo to Weymouth with two GBRF '73s', which included new Barbie liveried 73141 and 73204 (which is due a repaint!), Royal 67005 would be on the Bristol Temple Meads to Weymouth pairing with Reliable 67025, and finally before the service arrives at Bristol Temple Meads, I would be a few minutes ahead of the National Express HST hired into XC (so this might not be out next year) and the returning Paignton Compass Tour with Riviera Trains 47843 and 47812. The other option was to go and do the Spitfire railtour but this was a farce when 20302 failed its test run, 57007 didn't work and 37229 failed. Also enthusisats on board would have to catch the bus back to Wolverhampton after it terminated very late at Birmingham New Street. I caught the skips from Keynsham and arrived Weymouth several minutes late about half an hour before the 'EDs' arrived. I photographed them arriving from Platform 1 and then photographed them in Jersey sidings. I walked to Weymouth Quay to photograph the old station and the trackbed, which could soon reopen or get ripped up. I photographed 73204 leading 73141 back from a near bridge to the station before running back to the station to get the 67s home. At Bristol Temple Meads I photographed 43317 and the returning 47s which had 47812 leading. Many thanks to the lizard for all of the timings and to DR for his help.

Overnight at Exeter for 31106, Sleeper and 6M60

Friday 31 July 2009: 31st July 2009 to 1st August 2009 --- In the evening of the 31st July 2009, leaving around 2200, I went down to Exeter St Davids in South Devon to photograph a test train and a few other bits. I firstly photographed the 1A40 Penzance to London Paddington night riveria sleeper which was lucky enough to be FGW Green 57604. The other Green FGW ronnie, 57603 had moved to Loughborough a day before, going for repairs, but will eventually be repainted into FGW Blue. I then photographed the 6M60 Tavistock Yard to Bescot via Pengam which luckily had a crew change. The main purpose of the trip though was to capture recently repaired and repainted from Fragonset Black into Br Blue, 31106 which was hauling the 4QO8 20:06 Eastleigh RC to Eastleigh RC via Exeter St Davids and Honiton. I photographed the Blue Ped leading into Platform 1 at Exeter St Davids running bang on time at 0212. Many thanks must go and will go to the lizard for the times and to Derek for the Ronnie info

Friday 24 July 2009: Friday 24th July 2009 --- An action packed Dawlish Warren, including 43014 (possibly last Valenta working) on the sea wall working the 1Z18 London Paddington to Plymouth, return was 43062 leading at Rockstone. Many thanks to the lizard for the info and very nice meeting him on the sea wall. I then photographed 66723 returning from Kilmarnock as the 5S66 to Laira, before photographing it hauling 1 barrier back to Old Oak Common at Rockstone. I photographed 57012 which replaced the failed 37682 on a route learner, from Plymouth back to Crewe Gresty Bridge. I had photographed the 2Z08 Exeter Riverside yard to Derby before anything else at Collumpton, with DBS0 9701 and 31285 in charge. I then went to Totnes where I photographed 43036 and 43182 running back to back on a test run from Plymouth to Newton Abbot and return. (Many thanks to the lizard once again). I then went onto a very Friendly, impressive and enjoyable South Devon Railway where I had a ride behind one steam engine and D7612. I had enough time just to photographed D6737 and 33002 at Buckfastleigh before going back to Totnes. I then went to Bristol Temple Meads to photograph Royal 67005 approaching on the Cardiff to Taunton before going on them back to Taunton. (Nice that Grumpy was on the skips).

Thursday 23 July 2009: Thursday 23rd July 2009 --- The start of what would be a great holiday in Devon, Firstly I caught the Manchester Piccadily train from Newport to Bristol Temple Meads before catching another voyager to Exeter St Davids, noticing that the Taunton to Cardiff service had been replacement 67005 on the south end whilst 59101 was on the 7C27 in Exeter Riverside yard. Firstly I photographed 66723 which was flying (with a name like Chinnock suppose its meant to) on the 5S66 Laira to Kilmarnock (Many thanks to the lizard and CJM for the info). I then went on the local Pacer to Dawlish Warren in time for the 2Z08 Truro to Exeter Riverside yard which was DBSO 9701 tnt 31285. I then went back to Taunton and photographed 59101 on the 7C28 Riverside yard to Whatley and 66623 on the 6C73 Westbury to Fairwater. Many thanks then to Cam for his contribution making an excellent day out. We photographed 59101 at Bathpool due to it being looped to let a HST through and we then photographed 67005 on the 2C79 and 67025 on the 2U24 at Banklands and Durston near Cogload. I then went to Dawlish Warren photographing 66612 on the 6A59 to Reading West yard and 66230 on the 6V77 to St Blazey.

Wednesday 22 July 2009: Wednesday 22nd July 2009 --- Today I went to Maindee Junction and photographed Loadhaul 60059 hauling the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh loaded murco bogie tanks in the sun followed by several shots between Undy and Tutshill. I then went to Cheltenham and photographed DRS 37603 hauling 37601 on the 6M56 Berkley to Crewe nuclear flasks (Nice meeting TomD, Many thanks to JB for his help and to DR for times/growler info). I then photographed 158890 on the 1340 Cheltenham to Swindon. The sprinter is on hire to First Great Western and its South West trains livery made an unusual site at Cheltenham.I also photographed EWS liveried 66030 hauling the 6E77 Westerleigh to Port Clarance tanks in a monsoon. Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire for Historical Traction and DBS Office Train

Tuesday 21 July 2009: Thursday 23rd July 2009 --- Today I did what most enthusiasts wouldn't which was to go out in one of the write offs of the year, a day which contained so much promise due to the amount of appealing traction to be had, which included a colourful convoy 6x77, 57307 with new Virgin stock, Boston Grid and more, the day was consisted of torriental and convection rain.I didn't see any point in throwing a day away and braved the awkward weather conditions, Catching the train to Filton Abbey Wood capturing 67029 tnt 82146 on the DBS Management Office train which was my 1st target. This was the 1st time the train had made a visit deep into the South West and sadly photographing the train wasn't as enjoyable as it should be as finding out that the purpose of the train was to tell the workers at Tavistock yard that they were losing their jobs. On a happier note, I made Swindon just in time for a photograph of 37602, which was taking a stoneblower from Chipping Sodbury to Wymondham luckily running 26minutes late enabling me to get a shot.I then quickly got the next train which wasn't long getting to Bristol Temple Meads 1minute before 31454 on 4Z10 departed allowing me a snap shot from the window when passing Kingsland Road. I photographed the train several times as it ran as 4Z10 with DBSO 9714 from Kingsland Road to Barton Hill via Bedminster and return. I was then thrilled to see 31285 actually leading DBSO 9701, with brighter skies the loco was hauling the 2Z08 Westbury to Laira. I then got the 6V62 Fawley to Tavistock tanks which we'ree being hauled by 66136. Please visit 6v62.fotopic.net for more photos.Nice meeting David at the locations. Then went to Yatton photographing 67025 tnt 67017 on the 2C79 Cardiff to Taunton and 66136 on the 6v62 after it went into St Phillips Marsh. Nice meeting Liam at the spot.I then photographed the return of the office train before heading back to BTM. I bravely turned down tug59 for 31454 in hope that it would still do its 4Z08 Kingsland Road to Swindon via Bedminster, it did and not only that but my effort had been rewarded with a full sun shot. 21st July 2009 --- DRS having the contract for stoneblower moves, sent Compass liveried 37602 to Chipping Sodbury to pick one up to take it to Wymondham. Running as 6Z22 and running 26minutes late, the train approaches Swindon. Off course, not unusal territory for the Ped as she was working the Butlins Express and Bristol to Weymouths a few years ago. The Ped, was hauling the 4Z08 1901 Kingsland Road to Swindon via Bath and Bedminster. The Train was booked to go to Bedminster to reverse but instead reversed in the station at Bristol Temple Meads. Rare Ped to Severn Beach, Tug 59 and Tug 40

Monday 20 July 2009: Monday 20th July 2009 --- Today I just stayed locally, decision made miles easier by Loadhaul '60059' Swinden Dalesman being the tug on the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh loaded murco bogie tanks. Even though I had done tug59 on the Bishton flyover in sun several times, the sight of tug59 on the Bishton flyover just had to be taken again after a year at least of waiting. I then went to get my favourite shot of the Loadhaul tug, which was on the approach to Bulwark near Chepstow, helped by the fact the sun broke through. Many thanks to TD, Cam, BJ and to all others for the updates and hope Cam got some good shots at STJ. I then went over onto the Severn Beach line to get a rare test train which was pushed/hauled by Network Rail's 31285. The loco was needed in replacement of a 150 unit which was unwell, It had come down through the early hours of the morning as 2Z08 0442 Derby RTC to Westbury via Portbury, Avonmouth and Severn Beach. DBS0 9701 lead to Severn Beach doing a photograph at Severnside, over 85minutes late. Many thanks must go to and Will go to the lizard for the times/info and to LJS for the update. Nice meeting LJS and CP and others at the location. I did a shot of the Ped leading back from Severn Beach at Severnside with the Severn Bridge loaming in the background. Five Tugs inc Army+Loadhaul, 08711 leaves Westbury, '47s' and other bits

Saturday 18 July 2009: Saturday 18th July 2009 --- A weekend which had little promise from the start of the week due to the severe weather warnings and then all the farce on Friday with 20302 failing and being over 100minutes late on the Spitfire tour and the Compass Tour's 47s needing some assistance, this weekend looked very dull until the Friday night allocations. 60011 was placed on the 6M34 tomorrow (which was one option if needed), Loadhaul 60059 was on the 6A11 Robeston to Theale for 6B33, 60087 and 60085 were allocated 0D99 Bescot to Toton and 60013 was allocated 6B13, Both 60019, 60091, 60096 were working up north and 60022 was working the delayed 6E20 so that was even phottable, probably the best amount of decent tugs running on a Saturday for quite some time?, and then 37401 was allocated to the Holyhead freight and 57602 was allocated to do a test run from Old Oak Common to Bristol Temple Meads and return. Sttarting my day, I went into Michael Wood services to find a nice surprise, 08711 which has recently been stored and was heading northbound after losing its duties to a fellow shunter at Westbury. I then went to Grendon, as I am a fan of the Riveria Trains '47s' for 47843 and 47812 which were on a Compass tour from Nuneaton to Carlisle. I then went to Acton Gate with a few minutes to spare for the 1Z57 which was WCRC 47760 and 47826, 6233 was actually starting from Crewe and not Worcester. I then went on the A50 into Tamworth, with a few minutes to spare for the 0D99. Not the biggest fan of light engines, but when they are toton bound they sometimes need to be done just incase they never come back, and it was two tugs not one. 60087 hauled 60085 as the 0D99 Bescot to Toton. I then went to Cam and Dursley only just making it, (doing tug40 instead of tug11) and a good decision taken as the clouds cleared for that minute when 60040 passed on the 6E41. Many thanks to TomD for the yate info and to the lizard/ Shrek, SCLUB and cellophane for the info/updates. I waited for the 6B13 , 60013 which was slightly late. Four tugs before twelve. I then went to Bourton making it intime for the return of 57602 on the 5Z74 1230 Bristol Temple Meads to Old Oak Common, luckily 20minutes late enabling me to make the shot in time. I then went to Duffryn, to get my fifth tug, which was 60059 on the 6B33 Theale to Margam empty murco bogie tanks, I also got 66013 on the 6W06. Quarter of an hour at Miskin, including Three Sheds and Two Tugs

Friday 17 July 2009: Friday 17th July 2009 --- Today I photographed DB Schenker's 60059 in its famous Loadhaul livery hauling a retimed 6V07 Round Oak to Margam empty steel at Magor on the relief, the consist was extremely short but this didn't stop it going into Llanwern or Newport A.D.j. Many thanks to the lizard for the info, and Many thanks to JH for his updates on the freights leaving Newport. I then went down to Miskin to find that I had 3freights in roughly 20minutes, firstly a typical coal train came through with DBS 66124 at the helm. This was followed by DB Schenker's 60059 on the 6V07 Round Oak to Margam and followed again by DBS 66189 leading 60022 on the 6H26 Llanwern to Margam, the Shed had been attached at Newport A.D.j. 60059 would go on to work the 6A11 whilst 60022 would work the 6E20. 60013 was working the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh but was 5hours late due to severe flooding so was caped at Margam.

Swindon Dalesman at Bishton

Thursday 16 July 2009: Thursday 16th July 2009 --- In the afternoon, I went to a damp, wet and miserable Bishton crossing to photograph DB Schenker's Loadhaul liveried 60059 which was hauling the 6M41 Margam to Round Oak loaded covered steel. 60059 has recently been reinstated from Toton, alongside 60054. 60059 is the only remaining Loadhaul liveried tug, as 60007 is stored at Crewe EMD and doesn't look like coming back til at least the Autumn. 60008, 60025, 60038 were all repainted into EWS livery a few years ago and are all stored anyway. 60059 worked 6G45 Toton to Bescot, and then took over on the 6V19 Immingham to Margam steel. 60059 then worked the 6M41 Margam to Round Oak loaded covered steel being the first tug to work this working since the 20th April 2009 when it was hauled by 60024. 60059 will return to Margam overnight as the 6V61 Round Oak to Margam via Llanwern. Wednesday 15 July 2009: Wednesday 15th July 2009 --- Today I went to Undy in the evening, enjoying the rare sunshine, photographing: EWS liveried 67025 (now replaced 67016 for the time being as the skip is having an exam) leading the 2U24 Taunton to Cardiff Central FGW service. I photographed EWS liveried 60022 (now replaced 60013 as the tug failed last Monday) on the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks surprisingly on the main at Undy. I then photographed recently released 66842 in Advenza livery hauling the 6V95 Stockton to Cardiff tidal loaded scrap. (Pity it wasn't a 57 or 47!) I photographed other various freights including: 66008 on the 6V06 Hamsworth to Cardiff Tidal loaded scrap on the relief, 66013 on the 6B69 Portbury to Aberthaw coal on the relief, 66185 on the 0W60 Westbury to Newport A.D.j on the main, 66018 on the 6E30 Margam to Hartlepool limecontainters/loaded steel coils on the relief, 66154 on the 6V36 Lackenby to Margam steel coils on the relief and 66186 on the 6M17 Newport A.D.j to Wembley enterprise, being passed by Freightliner 66621 on the 6Z16 Morton-on-the-Lugg to Reading west yard. Yeoman 59002 leading 59202 and Night Sleeper ECS

Monday 13 July 2009: Monday 13th July 2009 --- Today I went to Crofton on the berks and hants, photographing the early morning jumbo train hauled by Mendip Rail's Hanson liveried 59104. I then went to Crofton, only to see Hanson's 59102 hauling a delayed Merehead to Theale, I thought I'do a shot at a famous location for enthusiasts but in a different position, getting the locks in the canal to the left of the photograph. I then went to Great Cheverell and photographed First Great Western (green) 57604 no. Pendennis Castle hauling the 5Z79B 1000 Old Oak Common to Penzance. The previous night's down sleeper was hauled by a HST, so the sleeper ECS was needed at Penzance for that night's up sleeper. It is believed 57602 yet again failed, so 57312 would have to soon be hire in. I had another lucky full sun shot. I then photographed DB Schenker's 66003 hauling a delayed 6M20 Whatley to St Pancras and 66171 hauling aa 6Z86 Hothfield to Whatley RMC train. Making the trip worth while (in my opinon) was the appearance in full sun of 59002 and 59202 on the 6C77 Acton Yard to Merehead. 59002 still remains in Yeoman livery (which is now Aggregate Industires) and 59202 is in EWS livery (which is now DB Schenker). Saturday 11 July 2009: Saturday 11th July 2009 After the West Somerset Railway's Diesel Gala I came home to photograph my local engineers, where the down mainline, was being renewed. 59005 in Aggregate Industries livery had came to South Wales on the 6W35 0916 Westbury to Severn Tunnel Junction and was in a great position at Magor for a photograph. At Bishton, I photographed, 60022 hauling the 6B33 Theale to Margam empty murco bogie tanks on the relief (Many thanks to RVM, Bigh and JH for the updates). I also photographed 66158 on an unidentified covered steel working. I photographed 66019, 66008 and 66186 going light engine to Bescot and 66110 on the 6W33 13:00 Maindee East Junction to Westbury over the Bishton flyover. 66014 on the 6V36 Lackenby to Margam loaded steel slabs on the relief. 73141 unveilled in her new First GBRF livery, D1015 on GBRF Private Charter and D7523

Saturday 11 July 2009: Saturday 11th July 2009 --- Many of my friends were visiting the Carlisle Kingmoor open day, good luck to them, hope they have a great time and hope the open day is a success, whilst I decided to leave it this year due to photographing the majority of locos and having been to similar previous open days in the past. I decided to stay on my own territory, going for one of my favourite locomotives, D1015 Western Champion which was hauling a private GBRF railtour from London Paddington to Minehead via the Berks and Hants, celebrating the first decade of GBRF and contributing to the "Help the Heroes" Charity. Just as well, going against the weather forecast, the wet weather came later than expected, near enough getting the sunny shot from 40steps bridge of the western departing Taunton. (Nice meeting Jonty again) The western had struggled with engine problems but made up 23minutes and sounded fine. I photographed the Western several times on the West Somerset Railway, shots included at Bishops Lydeard, Nethercott, Woolaston Moor and Doniford. Before going for the Western, I had gone to Minehead to photograph GBRF repainted in the revise GBRF livery, 73141 which had recently been hauled to the line by 66732 for naming. 73141 would be named Charlotte, following the conventions of the other '73s' which have all been named after girls. D7523 was also in a good photographic postition at Minehead.

Test Train to Newport and Lackenby Steel

Saturday 11 July 2009: Friday 10th July 2009 --- In the evening, I went to Newport station, platform 1 to photograph Network Rail's yellow 31233 top-and-tailed with DBSO 9703 reversing, working the 4Z10 22:20 Kingsland Road to Derby RTC via Bristol Temple Meads, Newport, the marches and Stoke. The test train was a few minutes early arriving at 23:10 and departed a few minutes early. 31233 lead from Newport to Crewe after the DBS0 lead from Kingsland Road. Well worth waiting for, but a bonus was DB Schenker's 66048 which was hauling the 6E36 21:36 Margam to Lackenby empty steel slabs which luckily had a crew change. Even though sheds may not be too appealing to enthusiasts, the working only to be seen at night and a working that I am yet to photograph was very pleasing. A crew change took place at Platform 4. All images taken using a tripod, as always no flash used.

60013 again hauling the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston tanks

Thursday 9 July 2009: Thursday 9th July 2009 --- This evening, I went to Caldicot Halt to photograph DB Schenker's 60013 hauling the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks. The loco approached the station slowly due to the red light, but soon clagged when given the green to go onto the relief line at Severn Tunnel Junction. The loco had worked the 6B13 earlier in the day. 60022 meanwhile failed whilst hauling the 6A11 Robeston to Theale tanks, so 66140 took over from Margam. 60022 was soon repaired at Margam but wasn't allocated until it did 6B03 Trostre to Llanwern and 6B04 return the following day. It is believed that 60022 is due to go to Toton for quick repairs but should remain in traffic unlike most tugs which have left Wales for Toton. I then photographed at Caldicot, 67017 tnt 67016 on the 2C79 1900 Cardiff Central to Taunton FGW service that was followed by 66089 on the 6A29 Wentloog to Didcot MoD stores. The collcection also includes some recent photographs from the 6th July 2009, of 66154 on the 6M17 Newport A.D.j to Wembley and 66031 on the 6A29.

Tug22 returns to South Wales, Tanks do main (twice in two days) and Advenza scrap (twice in two days)

Tuesday 7 July 2009: Tuesday 6th July 2009 to Wednesday 7th July 2009 --- (6th July 2009) Today I went to Undy, Very nice meeting my friends from the South West to photograph, 60013 leading the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks underneath a threatening sky which contained a rainbow. We then waited for the 6V95 Stockton to Cardiff Tidal hauled by Advenza 57006, which managed to make up a considerable amount of time after being 82minutes down to being slightly early and on the main at Undy. More photographs will be added to this collection shortly (including 0V69, 6M17). On the (7th July 2009), I photographed 60013 hauling the Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks overtaking Advenza freight 66841 which was hauling the 6V95 Stockton to Cardiff Tidal loaded scrap. At Magor, I firstly photographed 60022 leading the 6B33 Theale to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks on the main. 60022 had gone light engine from Toton to Margam as 0F85 the previous early morning, working the 6B07 to Robeston and overnight 6A11. 60022 will hopefully be first of many to return, 60024, 60040, 60049, 60054, 60077 are all likely candiates to return especially now as we are only a few months away from the sandiate season. At Magor, I then photographed 60013 which is clearly more appealing to Railway enthusiasts than 66841 so I was relieved when Tug13 appeared on the main blocking the not so appealing cred and not being the other way round. The sun surprisingly came out. 60013 had been sent on the main to make up 42minutes it had lost leaving Westerleigh on its usual 6B47. The Advenza scrap was bang on time and was booked on the relief.

7th July 2009 --- 170116 passes Undy beneath the threatening sky with the 1M81 18:46 Cardiff Central to Nottingham CrossCountry service." /> 6th July 2009 --- Advenza freight liveried 57006 passes a wet Undy working the 6V95 Stockton to Cardiff Tidal loaded scrap, Nice meeting friends from the South West at the location. 6V95 was running slightly early despite running 82minutes late at one time." /> 6th July 2009 --- With the rainbow clearly vanishing in the sky, 60013 comes underneath the threatening sky with the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks, yet again on the main. This train was running slightly early, Nice seeing my friends from the South West at this location" /> 7th July 2009 --- DB Schenker's 60022 recently reinstated at Toton, worked 0F85 Toton to Margam the previous night before hauling the 6B07 to Robeston. The tug then hauled the 6A11 Robeston to Theale loaded murco bogie tanks and returned with the 6B33 empties on the 7th July 2009. The train speeds through Magor on the main." /> 7th July 2009 --- DB Schenker's 60013 hauls the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks continuing her dominance on this working after working the 6B13 the morning, 6B47 was 42minutes late and was sent on the main to make up for lost time. Having a clear run down the lydney line behind Advenza freight 66841 which was working the 6V95 Stockton to Cardiff Tidal loaded scrap, the tank train overtook the scrap, when it was put on the main just after Severn Tunnel. The train passes Magor in a lucky patch of sun, and luckily Tug13 being on the main and not the other way round!" />

Tornado on the Torbay Express, Tangmere on the Cathedral Express

Sunday 5 July 2009: Sunday 5th July 2009 --- Today I went to Bristol Temple Meads to photograph, the first service of the Torbay Express. Now running under a private company called "The Torbay Express" due to the demise of Past Time Rail, has added interest as the first four sundays will be hauled by recently new/built Tornado, 60163. The Steam locomotive which cost 3million, and is the first locomotive to built in Britain for a considerable amount of time, looked splendid and worked well. The departure from Bristol Temple Meads was more than a welcoming sight. The next passenger service would be until nearly another hour. Surprisingly Tornado was put in the platform at Taunton station for water, the same platform that was needed for the HOBC (High Output Ballast Cleaner) to pass through to get into Fairwater Yard. The HOBC had to wait outside Taunton station, and to wait for Tornado to depart. The Paddington to Penzance HST service was then delayed for 10minutes by having to wait behind the HOBC at Taunton station. Tornado even departed early, but it was surprising that the HOBC had been allowed infront of the HST and not looped/diverted. The HST then luckily overtook Tornado, when Tornado was put into Tiverton loop to allow Tornado pass. This should have been done at Taunton but Network Rail's HOBC had messed this up. At Dawlish, I did the shot at Marine Parade, doing the shot along the sea wall into Kennaway tunnel. It was extremely pleasing to see the clouds break up in time. Nice meeting CJM and others at the location. I then got the 159 to Exeter Central, to photograph 34067 "Tangmere" hauling the 1Z92 Waterloo to Exeter St Davids Cathedral Express. Nice meeting some kind enthusiasts at Dawlish station and on the 159. I then was lucky to have a XC HST home and not a voyager, this enabled me to get a snap shot of 34067 and 47245 in Riverside yard, Exeter.

5th July 2009 --- New LNER A1 Class 4-6-2 no. 60163 'Tornado' departs Bristol Temple Meads impressively with this year's first Torbay Express which operates from Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear via Weston Super-Mare as the 1Z27" /> 5th July 2009 --- 73133 the Fairwater shunter which for the majority of the time is doing its job in the south end of the yard. Saturday 4 July 2009: Saturday 4th July 2009 --- Firstly Many thanks must go to and has gone to the East Lancashire Railway for a splendid diesel gala, which was welcoming and very enjoyable. Many thanks to the enthusiasts who supported the gala, to the volunteers/staff/drivers who made the gala possible. Today I went north to the East Lancashire Railway with little happening elsewhere, it was a very enjoyable gala. My shots came between Ramsbottom and Irwell Vale. I photographed a loco which I've been after for some time, but havent really had the chance to go up and photograph the loco, which is 50015 Valient. 50015 the ex-Dutch Hoover still carries her proud Large Logo livery and Valient nameplates. I then did 55022 Royal Scots Grey, followed by visiting locomotive from the Great Central North Railway, 47292 which had recently been repainted from Freightliner Green to Br Large Logo blue. I photographed WCRC liveried 37248 which was also visiting from the GCRN, which worked in multiple with Br Blue 37109. I photographed D7076 and 20107 which were both working shuttles from Bury to Ramsbottom. I photographed D1062 Western Courier which was visiting from the Severn Valley Railway and Riveria Trains' 47843. I then went to Irwell Vale, hoping for the sun to go in, as it was directly infront, for both D7629/24054 and 37418 which thankfully it did. I then photographed D7629 (from the GCRN) working in multiple with 24054 back in full sun, and then 37418 which also worked back.

57316 works the 1W91 Cardiff Central to Holyhead

Friday 3 July 2009: Friday 3rd July 2009 --- Arriva Trains Wales' unbranded 57316 hauls the 1W91 16:18 Cardiff Central to Holyhead Welsh Assembly Government express at Ponthir in full Sun. There wa blue/grey MK3 buffet car used in the consist. I then went on my bike to Undy, to photograph DB Schenker's 60013 hauling the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty MURCO bogie tanks, a location that I haven't attempted too often but I've done it everywhere else. 60022 has recently been reinstated to join Tug13, the loco would work the 0F85 Toton to Margam next Monday and would then be allocated to te 6B07 Robeston tanks. How long can 60013 last for?. 60096 surprisingly left South Wales and worked the 6M75 Newport Alexandra Dock Junction to Warrington enterprise leaving just 60013 to do the tanks trains. 66128 has been the main shed on the recent 6B33 Theale to Robeston duties. Lets hope for more tugs reinstatements soon. 60077 is also set to come back soon.

Tuesday 30 June 2009: Tuesday 30th June 2009 --- 60061 has now been moved to Toton (see lasts nights collection) leaving 60013 to soldier on solo in South Wales. This was not for long though, as DB Schenker's 60096 which also left recently on the 6E20 to Toton, has been repaired and reinstated. 60096 left the UKs biggest rail depot last night, and was moved south by 66119 which took charge of the 6V19 Immingham (sometimes from Scunthorpe) to Margam (sometimes Llanwern). 60096 then worked the afternoons new steel flow of the 6E37 1451 Margam to Lackenby empty steel slabs the first time a tug has done this working for at least 2years. I photographed the train at Bishton level crossing on the relief, Many thanks must go to and will go to the lizard for the info.

30th June 2009 --- New Lackenby steel flows have recently started, with the 6E37 14:51 Margam to Lackenby and 6V40 return being one of them, a locomotive which was definately not expected to work the train was recenly reinstated following repairs at Toton, 60096 which powers the 6E37 thru Bishton several minutes late with steel slab empties." /> 30th June 2009 --- DB Schenker's 60013 is photographed at Undy running bang on time, with its 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco tank train in tow." />

Tug61 leaves South Wales after only a week

Monday 29 June 2009: Monday 29th June 2009 --- After getting the 'impressive' Ped, a sad moment for South Wales tug fans was the unsurprising departure of Transrail liveried 60061. Making my trip back from Devon to South Wales for a sunny shot of 60061 last Saturday feels much better now after taking the oppurtunity just incase the loco goes into storage or Quarantine, which was exactly what happened, as 60061 is failure prone. Since reinstated, the tug has failed several times, and lets hope this is not the last we see of her. 60077, 60022, 60024 are all likely to come back within the next few weeks, lets hope its the tug 'boom' that we've all been waiting for. The tug departed Wales, on the typical tug departure working following in the footsteps of 60096 and 60021 which both departed last week, the 6E20 Margam to Immingham loaded/empty steel. The loco was DIT behind 66165, but surprisingly left its train at Llanwern. I photographed the pair running light at Bishton.

Monday 29 June 2009: Monday 29th June 2009 --- A way to end June on a high, was capturing what was certainly an eye opener, " the Ultra-sonic Test train" which always produces appealing traction in either the hands of a Ped or tractor. Preferably if the Locomotive is leading the DBSO, which luckily today it was. The 4Z08 12:17 Derby RTC to Laira TMD (23:11) was Network Rail's 31233 leading 6263, 999602, and Ex-One DBSO 9703 on the rear. Many thanks MUST go to and WILL go to the lizard for his excellent timings and updates. I went to Filton Abbey Wood, which is just south of Bristol Parkway to photograph the test train, which was running 46minutes early due to missing out stopping points and because of the slack shedule. This included not staying as long as the train should have done at Bristol Parkway. Sadly though, the train ran via St Phillips Marsh meaning that the DBSO would lead for my friends in the South West. Also Many thanks to DR for other info. Network Rail's 31233 continued to work in the South West throughout the week in the night, and stayed at Riverside Yard, Exeter. It is sheduled to return to Derby via Newport on Thursday night after an evening stay in Kingsland Road, Bristol.

Saturday 27 June 2009: Saturday 27th June 2009 --- Today I did the 3am start, and went down to Truerulefoot for the overnight sleeper which was hauled by 57602. I was lucky with the light as the sun shined through the low cloud making a shot reachable in the tricky early morning conditions. At the Plym valley railway, I photographed 37207, withdrawn in 1996 and ex- William Cookworthy, the loco is being restored at the railway. I then went to Langstone Rock, Nice meeting DR, CJM, TC and others. I photographed 37194 leading 37087 on the 1Z70 Birmingham International to Penzance 'Kernow Growler' spitfire tour, this was followed by 40145 debutising for the booked DBS 37s, on the 1Z37 Portsmouth Harbour to Penzance, the train was 50late due to dragging brakes but soon made this time up. I wanted to then nail 60061 in Transrail livery this year, which was working the 6B33 1212 Theale to Margam empty MURCO bogie tanks (This tug hasn't been down in Wales for a lengthy time now, a photo can be found of it on the 6B33 on my early railway scans website) I photographed the Tug at Badminton and then in sun on the reliefs at Somerton. I was very happy with the sunny shot at Somerton and I am very pleased that Redvanman had the same result at Baulking. Many thanks to GG for the info and to all previous posters on this working. I then went to Brent Knoll, Many thanks must go to and will go to LJS for the info, where I photographed the return of the Kernow Growler in full sun. Was very pleased that 37087 was leading, as it is a very appealing tractor with its split headcode, big nameplate and old DRS livery. Hope ML, JL had a gd day, and hope my friends in the south west got some gd shots, Many thanks to RD, TD for their updates and to everyone who kindly supplied info this weekend.

27th June 2009 --- DRS 37194 leads 37087 on the 1Z70 Birmingham International to Penzance at Langstone Rock." /> 27th June 2009 --- Large Logo liveried 40145 leads the 1Z37 Portsmouth Harbour to Penzance Pathfinder tour at Langstone Rock. 40145 had dragging brake problems at Exeter which delayed the train by 50minutes but these time was quickly made up." /> 27th June 2009 --- First Great Western's 57602 leads the 1C99 Paddington to Penzance overnight sleeper at Truerulefoot." /> 27th June 2009 --- 60061 passes Badminton near Acton Turville whilst hauling the 6B33 Theale to Margam empty murco bogie tanks. Many thanks to RVM for the info" /> 27th June 2009 --- Worth coming back for the full sun shot, was of 60061 still carrying its Transrail livery, which hauled the 6B33 12:12 Theale to Margam empty MURCO bogie tanks. The train after being delayed is seen passing Somerton on the relief lines. There were only 13tanks in the consist. Many thanks to RVM, GG and to all other previous posters." /> 27th June 2009 --- Due to the diverts and queues due to the mains closed, and points problems on the relief, 60061 was stuck behind a few trains allowing it to go slow making more than one shot possible!" /> 27th June 2009 --- 'The Kernow Growler' operated by Spitfire railtours, ran from Birmingham International to Penzance and return. ECS origin from Carnforth, the locomotives were DRS' Split headcode box and Ex HNRC 37087 named Keighley and Worth Valley Railway which paired with DRS 37194 which was snowplough fitted, and both carried same liveries of the orginial DRS livery. 37087 lead 37194 on the return, as the pair roar pass Brent knoll in fantastic evening sunlight heading back to Birmingham International. The train ran as 1Z73 15:38 from Penzance. Many thanks to LJS for the info" />

Swindon Dalesmen on the 6E41 Westerleigh to Lindsey

Thursday 25 June 2009: 25th June 2009 --- Today I photographed the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh loaded murco bogie tanks which had continued to be dominated by DB Schenker's Grey 60013, which again impressively hauled the 28 tanks at Duffryn and Bulwark. I then went to Haresfield for the main target of the day which was DB Schenker's Loadhaul liveried 60059 named Swindon Dalesman which had worked the overnight 6V98 Lindsey to Westerleigh, so worked the 6E41 Westerleigh to Lindsey but surprising left 54minutes early from its origin. The sun did its bit in coming out. In the evening, I then photographed very early running, so I had to settle for Bishton, 6V67 Shipley to Cardiff Tidal loaded scrap hauled by rather boring Advenza freight 66841. This was soon followed by DB Schenker's 60013 which worked the returning murco empties from Westerleigh to Robeston. 60013 ran nearly half an hour early. 60059 is allocated the 6V98 for tomorrow, 60013 will continue its dominance on the 6B13 and 60061 is likely to be on test and may put it an appearance on the Margam/Trostre to Llanwern steel shuttles. A Sunny evening at Undy for Steel, Scrap, Coal and Oil

Tuesday 23 June 2009: 23rd June 2009 and the 24th June 2009 --- Today I went to Undy to enjoy the full sun, but many thanks must go and will go to rene1015 for his info. Also Many thanks to RD/TD for the updates. Firstly I photographed DB Schenker's 66061 hauling the reinstated 6V36 Lackenby to Margam loaded steel coils, which was followed by 66016 on the 6E06 and 66099 on the 6B25. I then photographed the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks in full sun which was again hauled by DB Schenker's 60013. Many thanks to rene1015 for the info. The highlight of the night, was Advenza freight 57006 hauling the 6V95 Stockton to Cardiff Tidal loaded scrap in full sun at Undy. Many thanks to rene1015 again for the info. The previous night, 60021 had been taken from South Wales (see next collection) and this night was 60096's turn, after the loco had failed. 66193 hauled the loco in the consist of the 6E20 Margam to Immingham steel which departed Llanwern at 21:24 after it waited for the Bedworth to Robeston which was typically hauled by a shed, no. 66128. 60096 is likely to be moved to Toton after being dropped at Bescot. 60061 is 60096 replacement but failed on the 6V07 that evening, and was recessed at Worcester. A fitter from Toton has gone down to Margam to fix 60061, and the tug should be in action by the weekend. 60061 failed with a lack of power. 24th June 2009 --- The 6B47 yet again was 60013, so I went for a different shot at Magor, hoping it would come on the relief which it did. Many thanks must go to and will go to RVM/GG for the info. 60013 was running 30minutes which wasn't surprising because 6E41 was also 30minutes late. Hope lizard, and Grumpy both had good evenings out.

Wednesday 17 June 2009: Saturday 17th June 2009 - --- Dutch liveried 33002 leads the 08:20 Buckfastleigh to Totnes goods train at Caddaford making its preservation debut. This was the South Devon Railways' Diesel Gala, can't wait for the next one. Nice meeting some friends from the South West at the location. I then photographed a Pathfinder Tour with 59206 and 59205, if you would like to view these pictures then please return to the index and scroll to one of the recent collections that contain the photos. Sunday 18th June 2009 - --- Managed a few photographs from the West Somerset Railway, I have only added my two favourite to this collection, other collections may contain other photos. This includes: D7017 returning to traffic after a long period out of service, This hauled the 12:05 Norton Fitzwarren to Minehead non-stop service which I photographed at Blue Anchor in full Sun. I then photographed visiting D1062 Western Courier which hauled the 12:40 Bishops Lydeard to Minehead which I also photographed at Blue Anchor.

13th June 2009 --- An early morning trip to the South West, to photograph the supreme restored 33002 which looked "Stunning" in Dutch livery. The reason for the trip was that the loco was making its preservation debut on the South Devon Railway and it was also hauling the 08:20 Buckfastleigh to Totnes goods train and is seen here at Caddaford near Bishops Bridge. Nice meeting the lizard and co from the South West at the location." /> 14th June 2009 --- D1010 was not ready to appear in time for the Mid traffic gala at the West Somerset Railway, one loco that was, no. At Heanor, Langley Mill, I photographed 47540 on a low loader and the Cab of E3044 (Many thanks to Redvanman for his effort in giving me directions).I then went on a voyager to York calling at Wakefield westgate to photograph National Express 91111 (Many thanks to Greg for the info and to DR for train times). Went to the National Railway museum then and photograph Duchess of Hamilton and a few exhibits. Before going to York station (nice meeting Carl and Carl Gorse) to photograph 40145 leading 47815 on the Durham to Holyhead. 26th May 2009 Today I went to Tamworth and photographed many freight trains, highlights being 66707 on the Ironbridge coal, 47727 on the 6Z47 Rugeley to Rugby, 90041 on the 4L75 and 66301 on the 4G09. Nice meeting BigDan and co and many thanks to JB for location times. 27th May 2009 Another trip to Tamworth and again many thanks to JB, Nice meeting DW, BigDan and others again.Firstly I went to Willington to photograph 56311 on the 6Z56 Washwood Heath to Boston Docks and 66721 tnt 66719 on the 6Z50 Daw Mill to Butterwell. At Tamworth, I photographed the 6M11 Washwood Heath to Peak Forest which was 60091, 6M57 Lindsey to Kingsbury tanks which was 60085 and the 6Z56 Tidal to Hitchin scrap which was 47237. Luckily Tamworth was one of only few places that avoided rain that day. I also photograph four Swipers, Cans on the 4L92 and 66411 on the 4M44 Mossend to Daventry.(I photographed over 30freights that day but many are yet to be uploaded).28th May 2009 At Derby I photographed the 6Z50 Daw Mill to Butterwell before getting 56311 on the 6Z57 Boston Docks to Washwood Heath at Tamworth, not bothering with the returning le. Nice meeting my friend that I saw everyday at Tamworth but also Matt Clarke. I then photograph 37516 taking the Queen of Scots from Eastleigh to Carnforth at Tamworth LL, and then I felt like leaving Tamworth so I went to Chesterfield which was very pleasing because I photographed many freights including 60018 and 60013. Deltic leading 20107, 26007, 45060 in a convoy in full sun at Chesterfield turned out to be the highlight, well worth the 3hour and a bit wait.I then back to Derby surprisingly seeing a GBRF shed with a unit. 29th May 2009 I visited Peak Rail and Midland Railway centre, very impressed with the well looked after locos at both places, I had many pics included new liveried 37152 and 47401. I then went to Chevin to photograph 60096 on the 0M18 Donny to Toton (Many thanks to the lizard as always for the info) and 60163 on the 5Z63 York NRM to Bescot. I also photographed Advenza freight 66841 which was far from exciting running on the 0Z66 BTM to Doncaster. Nice Meeting DR, and many thanks to everyone else who I met and to all who contributed to a fantastic holiday with info.

Eastleigh '100' Open Day at Eastleigh Works

Saturday 23 May 2009: Saturday 23rd May 2009 --- Today I did the Eastleigh '100' Open Day event's early bird which was cracking. It was very sunny so it was extremely enjoyable. And the locos in shadow will be photographed again or have already been photographed. My favourite part of the Eastleigh open day, was the 'ED' line up of 73006, 73109 and 73119. Stored Br Green 37411 was in an excellent position next to DRS 37059 as well as West Coast Railway company's 37516 and 37706 which were both next to each other. I photographed Ex Fragonset liveried 33103 which had recently been repainted into Br Blue. My favourite growler, 37422 Cardiff Canton was in a good position in the works shed, and hopefully she will return to the mainline. Many thanks to everyone involved with making the Eastleigh open day a success and a very enjoyable event. There are not many shots around Micheldever but I managed a field zoom shot, a wormeye shot of DRS Growlers 37602 and 37069 on the 1Z44 Crewe to Weymouth via Eastleigh Spitfire railtour. I then chased the 6B33 Theale to Margam empty murco bogie tanks hauled by 60074 back home, at Shrivenham and Somerton. I am very glad that redvanman and GG both got good shots.

Sunday 17 May 2009: 16th May 2009 --- All thanks must go to and will go to JL/ML for a splendid day in Devon and Cornwall. Today I photographed the The Cornish Parker which operated from Crewe to Parkandillack as a Pathfinders Tour. The locomotives were DB Schenker's 37670 returning to its home of St Blazey and 37401. Firstly I photographed at Haresfield, the diverted via Gloucester, 6B80 Westbury yard to Machen which was being hauled by DB Schenker's 66092. I then waited and photographed the 1Z37 Pathfinder Tour to Parkandillack, with 37401 leading 37670. I then went to Langstone Rock near Dawlish Warren, to photograph in very lucky sunshine them again. The Growlers approached Dawlish Warren in full dull, but were looped without stopping and by the time they had approached the Rock the sun had broke through the Cloud. I then went into Cornwall (Many thanks to ML/JL) to Burngollow junction where 37401 ran round and went on the rear of the train. 37670 lead the railtour to Parkandillack. It was very nice meeting Shrek, SCLUB, Cellophane Steve, Swag, weasel and others at the location. On the way back from Parkandillack to Par, We photographed the train at Foxhole in another patch of lucky sunshine. 37401 lead the 1Z38 Parkandillack to Par. Before going to Restormel we did the final photograph of the '37s' arriving back at Burngollow Junction. We then went to Restormel to photograph the return leg, 1Z74 Par to Crewe with 37670 leading 37401 back. The final shot I did, was at Exminster near Exeter with 37670 leading 37401. A top day!

Sunday 10 May 2009: Sunday 10th May 2009 --- Today I went to Upper Hatherley because I really wanted to photograph one of my favourite '47s', 47798. 47798 is in Royal livery and I remember when I was little photographing it arriving into Newport Station with 47787 on the Royal train. 47798 is now owned by the National Railway Museum and is on hire to the West Coast Railway company at this current time. Today it lead the 5Z27 12:16 Gloucester to Carnforth empty coaching stock from yesterday's Red Dragon PMR tour. Br Two Tone Green which lead bothways yesterday was at the rear of the train. Many thanks to JH for the updates and to FOB for the info. I then waited for the 6E59 10:00 Pengam to Stockton empty scrap which was hauled by Advenza freight 47237. Big thanks to GWOT for the info on this train running and many thanks to JH for the updates. (It was nice meeting Mr and Master Boskett). I then went south to Haresfield, to catch up with yesterday's Spitfire tour ECS. West Coast Railway Company's 37676 lead the 5Z38 13:36 Bristol Temple Meads to Carnforth ECS with the Fifty Fund's D444 on the rear. D444 was to be dropped off at Kidderminster and to return to the Severn Valley Railway, leaving the growler to take the train home. Again, Many thanks to JH for the updates. Saturday 9 May 2009: Saturday 9th May 2009 --- Today I had an early 03:58 start to photograph the Fifty Fund's two tone green livery, D444 Exeter which was hauling The Cambrian Mountaineer Spitfire tour which operated from Bristol Temple Meads to Aberystwyth with a 05:26 departure. 37676 in West Coast Railway company was on the rear. I did a night photograph at Bristol Temple Meads station before going to Ashchurch to photograph PMR railtours The Red Dragon 1Z22 Gloucester to Holyhead which was top-and-tailed Br Two tone green 47851 and Royal 47798. I then went to Moss Pit near Acton Gate (Nice meeting Gary Smith at the location), where I photographed Blue Can 86259 which hauled the 1Z42 Birmingham New Street to Carlisle, I then photographed 66580 on a northbound liner before meeting the WCRC '47s' again. I then went to Shifnal to catch back up with D444, depsite its problems at Leamington Spa, the Hoover made up incrediable time that it had lost to pass the location only 6minutes down. I was lucky not to have the sun out as it is not good at that time of day, 37676 was on the rear and pushing. At Shrewsbury, it was joined by 97301 (ex-37170) which hauled WCRC 37676 with D444 on the rear. I photographed the tour at Middletown, and then in lovely full sun at Penarth. (Many thanks to Richard Jones for location details). I then went to Glandovery where I met the tour again before doing final shots at Borth and arriving Aberystwyth. This was the first railtour to use the new refurbished Network Rail '97s', using them had previously was intended however they are only covered on the Cambrian line. I then headed home and just as well, because D444 sadly suffered problems which lead to WCRC 37676 and I am not a big fan of the maroon livery on growlers. I went to Peterstone between Cardiff and Newport to photograph the 6B33 Theale to Robeston empty MURCO bogie tanks diverted via Gloucester, this is the last weekend of the Severn tunnel diversions. The 6B33 was hauled by 60065. Many thanks to the lizard for all of his info and updates. I then went to Netherend to photograph Cancer Trust tug74 Teenage Spirt hauling the 6B47 Westerleigh to Robeston empty MURCO bogie tanks in just about full sun. Many thanks to the lizard for the info. A great day with plenty of variety, and many thanks to all tour operators/loco owners and gen providers.

Teenage Spirit at Magor and the hope valley named Fred

Tuesday 5 May 2009: Tuesday 5th May 2009 --- The local daylight tank trains are the 6B13 (6B47), 6B33 (6A11) and 6E41 (6V98). Each tank train produced a different liveried tug today, the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh loaded murco bogie tanks was DB Schenker's expected 60065, which then worked the 6B47 Robeston to Westerleigh. The 6V98 Lindsey to Westerleigh loaded tanks was Grey 60091, which was replaced by Grey 60013 for the returning 6E41 Westerleigh to Lindsey due to it failing at the Bristol Oil terminal. The working as always that I took the most interest in was, the 6B33 Theale to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks which was Cancer Trust tug74. 60074 worked yesterday's 6B07 Margam to Robeston tanks, the tug then worked the overnight 6A11 Robeston to Theale loaded murco bogie tanks. 60074 then brought the empties back from Theale today. This working was trialed a few weeks ago with 59202, but the first attempt with a 59/2, wasn't good as 59202 failed. Lucky we have two tugs in Wales to cope with the workings, saying that there are three tugs not in traffic at the moment in Margam. I photographed todays 6B33 passing Magor at speed on the main. I also photographed Freightliner's 66601 named 'The Hope Valley' passing light engine, a Kingsland Road to Basford Hall move. Many thanks to the lizard for the overnight allocation.

5th May 2009 --- After working the 6B07 Margam to Robeston followed by the 6A11 Robeston to Theale loaded murco bogie tanks, Tuesday 5th May 2009, saw 60074 in its Cancer Trust livery working the return 6B33 Theale to Robeston empty murco bogie tanks, the train passes Magor on the main. This tug worked the 6B33 last Tuesday and Thursday and was probably going to work it last Saturday if it had not failed whilst working the 6V75 last Friday." /> 5th May 2009 --- Freightliner 66601 named 'The Hope Valley' passes Magor on the main whilst running light engine from Kingsland Road to Basford Hall." />

Grids down the marches and Parker to Bath Spa

Monday 4 May 2009: Monday 4th May 2009 --- Operated by DB Schenker, was Retro railtours' "Retro Avon Grid" railtour which started from Huddersfield and ended at Bath Spa. The traction was the two Hanson Grids, 56312 in Artemis purple livery with yellow cab ends, and 56311 in uncompleted Railfreight grey with yellow cab ends. The Traction from Bristol Temple Meads to Bath Spa was Virgin Trains 57311 named Parker. 57311 was on the rear of the tour from Huddersfield and had worked the ECS for the tour. The headcode was the 1Z56, departing Huddersfield at 06:52. The consist was chocolate+cream 92904, virgin 11027, blue and grey cargo d 11084, 11086, 11064 and 10242 and virgin 12054, 12094, 12017 and 12124, with 57311 on the rear. The train went via Crewe and the marches, I photographed the Grids at Llanover, and due to the slack shedule made it easy to get it again at the Bishton flyover. Before finally getting 57311 Parker at Newton St Loe, just before Twerton. The '57' lead from Bristol Temple Meads to Bath before taking the ECS to Swindon. Gatwick Express 73202 speeds through the UK's busiest railway station

Sunday 3 May 2009: Sunday 3rd May 2009 --- As I really like Electro-Diesels, class '73s' when it was posted that 73202 recently repainted into the newer version of Gatwick Express was to be out with a unit in tow, I was never going to miss the opportunity to get the loco because it is rarely seen hauling trains on the mainline at the moment. Many thanks to CRTL.ALT.DEl for the info. 73202 hauled 442424 as the 5Z30 10.20 Lovers Walk to London Victoria, I caught the train into Clapham junction and managed to get the shot off platform 13 in full sun. Many thanks to redvanman for the updates. The unit would take the 'ED' back to Lovers walk as the 5Z31 and the 'ED' would then go as the 0Z32 Lovers Walk to Stewarts Lane. Very nice meeting some friendly enthusiats at Clapham junction which is the U.K's most busiest railway station.

3rd May 2009 --- Gatwick Express liveried 73202 Dave Berry hauls 442424 on the 5Z30 10:20 Lovers Walk to London Victoria at Clapham junction just south of its destination. The Heart of Wales Scenic Rambler and Scenic Forest of Dean for E6001!

Saturday 2 May 2009: Saturday 2nd May 2009 Today I went to Wistanstowe which is about 1mile north of Cravern Arms to photograph DB Schenker's EWS liveried 37670 St Blazey leading 37401 on the 1Z51 Mossley Hill to Cardiff Central 'The Heart of Wales Scenic Rambler' Compass tour, the train ran pretty much to time all the way through, and 37670 showed yet again a high standard of reliability. I then photographed the train crossing over at the semaphores and passing through Cravern Arms station before it goes onto the Central wales line, it was very pleasing to have the sun out.I then went to the beautiful and scenic Dean Forest Railway where I photographed E6001 working the 11:45 Lydney junction to Parkend, and then returning with the 12:50 Parkend to Lydney junction near Upper Forge. It was a lucky that the sun wasn't out this time due to its position. Very nice meeting Nags Ball 2 and hope he had a good day. I then went to Clawdd y Coch, Miskin where I got my favourite shots of the growlers. Nice meeting JL and ML at several locations. My final shot came at Ponthir in nice evening light, as the growlers were only several minutes late and they made this time up easily. This was the 1Z52 1804 Cardiff Central to Mossley Hill via the marches.

2nd May 2009 --- DB Schenker's 37670 looking glorious depsite its faded EWS livery, leads 37401 on the 1Z51 Mossley Hill to Cardiff Central via the Central Wales line. The location is a sunny and Wistanstowe just a few miles north of Cravern Arms, the Growlers were hauling the Heart of Wales scenice Rambler Compass tour and it was bang on time at this location. The stock was nice as it was a nice long same colour rake of virgin mk2s, apart from the bluemk2 on the rear but this can only be seen on the curve in the distance of the shot." /> 2nd May 09 --- DB Schenker's faded 37670 leads 37401 on the 1Z51 Mossley Hill to Cardiff Central 'The Heart of Wales Scenic Rambler' Compass tour via the Central wales line. The Pair of Growlers were hauling 12 virgin mk2s with 1 blue mk2 at the rear, the tour running to time crosses over at the semaphores and approaches the 'up' platform at Cravern arms whilst going onto the single Central wales line towards Knighton. The train was on time and in full sun." /> 2nd May 2009 --- The Dean Forest Railway is the best setting for one of the best restored and preserved 'ED' in the country, 'E6001' (73001) which passes Upper Forge in its splendid Br Green working the 11:45 Lydney Junction to Parkend service. The 'ED' ran on all todays trips and was very succesful, more photographs can be viewed by clicking here or for information on events and loco status please visit the DFDA website There are diesel running days on the 11th July, 13th August and 12th September 09. There is a diesel day on the 27th June 09 featuring all available locos, along with vintage heritage events as well throughout the summer. Hope Nags had a good day." /> 2nd May 2009 --- Splendid looking E6001 shows off it livery as it hauls the 12:50 Parkend to Lydney junction service, the 'ED' accerlates away from Whitecroft junction. 27th April 2009 --- 6V36 Lackenby to Margam return is seen in typical wet conditions on the relief at Magor following the DB Schenker '67's. This is the first time that the 6V36 has worked for about a year." /> 28th April 2009 --- The long awaited return of the 6V36 Lackenby to Margam(no longer Llanwern) steel slab train. The 6V36 still has its old path and is still a good time keeper like many steel trains that come down the lydney line like the 6V92. With load 22, and on its second day of running this year, 66011 heads south through Undy in sunshine bang on time." />

Saturday 25 April 2009: Saturday 25th April 2009 --- Not the best of starts but one of the best of finishes. I started off today with determination to get a couple of shots of 47818, not that expected to have as many as I managed. I firstly photographed the loco hauling the 5Z46 0808 Bristol Temple Meads to Brush Loughborough. This working was meant to go last friday but due to the hst trailers being delayed a day in Scotland the barrier was not available until Saturday. I then searched for a new location and found one at Keenes near Gloucester where I photographed DBS 60065 on the 6B13 Robeston to Westerleigh and 66044+66089 on the 6M60 Tavy yard to Bescot via Pengam. Many thanks to the lizard for the timings, CJ for the update and to TD/RD, cymru for info on 6M60. I then went to Miskin in South Wales, where I luckily managed a shot of 60074 working the 6H27 Margam to Llanwern steel that was shortly followed by the Central Wales explorer to Cardiff which was hauled by 67029. I then went for a shot of Purton of 47818 hauling the Power car 43056 which turned out of be great due to the sun coming out at the last minute. Due to the loco being held for nearly an hour at Lydney loop I manage to photograph it at Stroat and due to its slow speed and due to it stopping at a signal I was able to just make Tutshill. I then went to Ponthir for a shot of 67029 returning to Hootton as the 1Z46.

Friday 17 April 2009: Friday 17th April 2009 Firstly many thanks to the lizard as always for the info and timings. Today I photographed firstly the 7A09 Merehead to Acton yard jumbo train which was hauled by 59104, I photographed this at Great Cheverell. I then went to Upton Scudamore to photograph Cotswold Rails 47818, (likely to be used in anglia again this year), hauling the 5Z50 0915 Eastleigh yard to Long Marston with arriva coaches in tow. I then went to Freshford where I photographed 66186 on the 6B65 Westbury yard to East Usk yard engineers, I then photographed 47818 for a second time.I then went to Berkley Marsh to hopefully get a shot of the 7C31 Theale to Merehead jumbo train which was hauled by 59201, again Many thanks to the lizard. I then went for possible working of the year, again many thanks to lizard and RS, where I photographed returning from Norfolk 47580, hauling completed 50026, sky blue 37308, and uncompleted Loadhaul 50135 and a wagon. I got the shot at Egham.
